About The Sheiling

At 750 square feet of interior living space, the Sheiling is designed to live larger than its footprint suggests. The open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area creates an easy flow for everyday living, while the private bedroom, full bath, pantry, and utility spaces make the home practical and comfortable year-round. Large windows and a simple layout bring in daylight and create a bright, welcoming interior.

One of the defining features of the Sheiling is its connection to the outdoors. The design includes 625 square feet of porch and pergola space, extending the living area beyond the walls of the home and creating room for outdoor dining, relaxing, and gathering. This balance of indoor comfort and outdoor living makes the Sheiling especially well suited for a guest house, backyard cottage, retirement home, rental unit, or multigenerational living space.

Rooted in Yeoman Design Build’s commitment to sustainable building, the Sheiling is designed with performance and healthy materials in mind. The plan includes a straw panel structural insulated wall system, optional clay plaster walls, and a Tulikivi TU-1000 soapstone masonry heater for efficient, resilient heating. With a design that can maintain interior temperatures with passive solar gain and minimal fuel use, the Sheiling reflects a practical, beautiful approach to low-impact living.

This pre-designed ADU also offers flexibility. Various finishing packages are available, allowing homeowners to tailor the look and feel of the space while benefiting from an established design. The result is a home that feels personal, grounded, and enduring — with a streamlined path from vision to construction.
