ADU Builders

Understanding Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs)

Accessory Dwelling Units are secondary housing units located on the same lot as a primary residence.  Also know as: In-law apartments, backyard cottages, granny flats, or ADU houses,  these versatile structures can provide additional living space for family members, guests, or even rental income opportunities. These structures were once allowed only in certain towns and usually with stringent zoning restrictions. Now they are available to all property owners in Massachusetts by right! As ADU builders, we specialize in creating accessory dwelling units that are sustainably built, crafted with care, and designed to fit the needs of your family, and your property . These small and practical structures are a perfect fit for our eco conscious building approach. As always we will use a holistic design approach, and thoughtful materials selection to bring you the best results.

The ADU Building Process

Building an ADU with Yeoman Design Build involves a thorough process to ensure that your ADU project runs smoothly from conception to completion:

The process for building an ADU house begins with you letting our builder and designer know the purpose of the attached adu.

1. Consultation and Design:

We work closely with you to discuss your vision, budget, and specific needs for your ADU home. Once we understand your goals and ideas we can create tailored ADU floor plans that meet your requirements. We will develop a design in-step with your life and that feels in place with your property and surroundings.

The next step in the process of building accessory apartments, is to talk about getting permits and creating a floor plan for our clients.

2. Permitting and Planning:

Navigating local regulations can be complex, but our experienced team and network handles all permitting processes, ensuring compliance with zoning laws and building codes. In the pre-construction face we lay the groundwork for a successful build.

The step after that is the most exciting: constructing the space of your dreams! We will discuss costs and how affordable carriage houses are.

3. Construction:

Our skilled craftsmen begin construction, following a thoughtful plan and prioritizing locally sourced and healthy building products we put the pieces together to bring the vision to life. With attention to detail we build a space that is efficient, comfortable, practical, and feels like home. .

Now we will provide a final inspection of your guest house and allow you to see everything adus provide.

4. Completion and Beyond:

Once the ADU is built, we see through project through all its final inspections including our own, and yours too! And as with all our new builds we include a 3 month and 1 year check in to make sure you are happy with the performance and function of your new dwelling.
